What is Traitors?

Traitors is an exciting social deduction game where players are divided into two teams: the Faithful and the Traitors. The goal of the Faithful is to identify and eliminate all Traitors, while the Traitors attempt to remain hidden and eliminate the Faithful.

This online version allows you to manage your real life game, play with friends remotely, roles, and voting all in one place.

How to Play

1. Create or Join a Game

Start by creating a new game or joining an existing one using a game code. You'll need to provide a nickname to identify yourself in the game.

2. Game Setup

One player will be designated as the Game Master (GM), who oversees the game and manages the phases. Players are randomly assigned roles as either Faithful or Traitors.

3. Game Phases

The game alternates between two main phases:

  • Banishment: All players vote to eliminate someone they suspect is a Traitor
  • Murder: Traitors secretly choose a Faithful player to eliminate

4. Winning Conditions

The Faithful win by eliminating all Traitors, while the Traitors win by reducing the number of Faithful to equal the number of Traitors.

Game Timing & Pacing

Quick Games (2-4 hours)

Perfect for game nights or evening gatherings. Keep the energy high with shorter phases:

Recommended Timing:

  • 6-8 players: 15-20 minute banishment phases, 5-10 minute murder phases
  • 9-12 players: 20-25 minute banishment phases, 5-10 minute murder phases
  • Total game time: 2-4 hours depending on group size

Weekend Getaways (2-3 days)

For longer events, spread the game across multiple sessions with more time for social interaction:

Weekend Game Structure:

Timing Principles
  • Plan banishment phases around natural gathering times:
    • Before/after meals
    • During group activities
    • When everyone is together
Daily Structure
  • Day 1 (Evening): 2-3 banishment phases
  • Day 2: 3-4 banishment phases spread throughout the day
  • Day 3 (Morning): 2-3 banishment phases

Important Notes:

  • Banishment phases typically last 30-45 minutes, but adjust based on group size and engagement
  • Murders happen during breaks to maintain secrecy
  • Game Master should announce the murder at the start of each new banishment phase
  • Keep the schedule flexible - adjust based on group energy and engagement

Tips for Great Gameplay

  • Start with a brief introduction of all players to help with social deduction
  • Use the time between phases for players to socialize and gather information
  • For longer games, consider adding themed meals or activities between rounds
  • Keep a consistent schedule to maintain game momentum
  • Adjust timing based on group dynamics and engagement level

Pro Tips

  • For weekend games, start with fewer Traitors and add more as the game progresses
  • Consider having a "night phase" where players can't discuss the game
  • Use the app's game history to review past rounds and build suspense
  • Plan breaks around meals or activities to keep the game fresh
